A national cuisine is a set of dishes which are traditionally eaten by people living in the same country. People used to eat fruit and vegetables, meat and fish typical to their neighborhood. Traditional food is not a matter of one’s preferences, but availability of the resources at hand. Some part of Belarus is covered with forest so berries and mushrooms make up a great part of ingredients used while cooking traditional meals. Besides them potato and flour are widely used to cook such famous meals as vereshchanka, kolduny and dranniki. We do eat meat and fish but lard is much more popular than them. Stewing is a traditional way of cooking in Belarus. It doesn’t take much energy and attention to cook in this way. Vegetables are often pickled in brine and vinegar. The lack of variety of different kinds of food on offer is made up for by using various spices: cumin, horseradish, mustard and so on and so forth.
